Limited Scleroderma - Causes, Symptoms And Treatment (part 2 of 2)

Limited scleroderma is also known as CREST which is an acronym of all of its most visible symptoms. The first symptom for it of which the first letter stands for is calcinosis. This is the development of tiny calcium deposits under the skin which mainly form on the joints. These deposits can be felt and seen easily. Another symptom is Raynaud’s phenomenon which is the most common symptom of every form of scleroderma with it happening in 95% of all cases.

Esophagus disease is also experienced by people who suffer scleroderma, which would make it difficult for them to swallow since it interferes with the body’s way of processing food down known as peristalsis. Another evident symptom is sclerodactyly which refers to the localized tightening of the toes and fingers thus limiting their movement. The last symptom is telangiectasias, which are tiny red areas anywhere on the skin.

As of now, there is no known treatment for the complete removal of scleroderma in a patient. The approach for treating scleroderma is focused on limiting the damages done by the illness to the affected areas and as well as attempting to restore function to the damaged area. This can be done by either medications, rehabilitation therapy and as well as surgery. Numerous cases have been proven successful in the past.

For limited scleroderma, each different symptom is treated individually. Raynaud’s phenomenon would only require warming and protection or one could take low-dose aspirin to prevent blood clots. Fluoxetine can also help improve overall circulation which can restore normal functions.

Limited Scleroderma - Causes, Symptoms And Treatment (part 1 of 2)

Limited scleroderma is one of two main forms of scleroderma, with it being the safer or the one which would tend not to be fatal. Limited scleroderma happens when an individual’s antibodies would attack his or her own tissues, which is contrary to its real purpose which is to protect it. This in turn would cause the affected area, which in most cases is the skin, to thicken. Since this is usually accompanied by pain, the patient’s movement is limited.

Limited scleroderma would often show in the face, chest, arms, elbows, knees, fingers, toes and sometimes on the legs and the spine. This is most likely to occur to women than it is on men and usually comes out when the victim is around 30 to 50 years of age. While limited scleroderma is considerably mild, neglecting it can make the case worse and have the condition spread inside. This condition then is known as systemic sclerosis.

As of now, there is no accurately known cause for any case of scleroderma. Some of the possible causes are genetics and that scleroderma can be hereditary, environment and that it is brought about by different unwanted factors in the environment such as bacteria, virus and similar factors, hormones are also said to cause it as to explain why women are more likely to develop scleroderma much more than men are.

One theory also made was that the fetal matter left after pregnancy that are still circulating in the mother’s system, even after decades of giving birth can cause scleroderma. While all of these may be reasonable and are very possible causes of scleroderma, unfortunately none of them are proven yet and the cause for all forms of scleroderma remains unknown.

Can You Get Mood Swings If You Go on a Protein Diet? (part 2 of 2)

Serotonin can also affect the way people feel about food.  Once it's functioning in the brain, it makes the stomach feel full while you're eating, allowing you to regulate the amount of food you eat.  Without serotonin, there is a danger that you could overeat.

If you have a problem with mood swings, it could also be because the lack of serotonin in your protein diet failed to regulate your moods.

The problem with protein diets
People who use the protein diet can often severely restrict the amount of carbohydrates in their diet.  If it remains uncorrected for a long time, the body can continue to have a strong appetite for food because the amount of serotonin is not enough to regulate the cravings.  This is why people will still feel hungry even after a good meal.

Without serotonin, the appetite cannot shut off and mood swings become inevitable.  People who use protein diets to lose or regulate their weight can often experience changes in their moods after food has been digested.  This usually occurs late in the afternoon or in the evening, a few hours after dinner.

The mood swing can often be followed by a craving for something starchy or sweet.  However, if protein is still taken instead of carbohydrates, the person will continue to experience mood swings, become irritable, restless, lethargic and bad tempered.

When using protein-based diets, it's important to consider its effects on the body.  If symptoms such as mood swings appear, it might be time to determine whether a few alterations in the diet are required.  Mood swings may not be that troublesome initially but if they last longer and occur frequently, they could affect your life and work.

Can You Get Mood Swings If You Go on a Protein Diet? (part 1 of 2)

Food intake has a very big influence in our emotions.  The idea, smell, feel and taste of food, for example, can often be enough to produce feelings of euphoria, nostalgia, joy and satisfaction.  But what happens when certain foods are eliminated, such as when a person is on a diet?  Will you get mood swings during protein diets and if so, how can this be corrected?

How protein affects your mood
Protein is an important nutrient.  Its sources include meat, fish, chicken, soy and soy products, dairy products and nuts.  When ingested and absorbed into the bloodstream, protein stimulates the body to release two important neurotransmitters: norepinephrine and dopamine.

These neurotransmitters help the body feel more energetic, awake and alert.  This explains why after a good, complete meal, we feel refreshed and active.  The lack of sufficient protein in the diet, on the other hand, produces the feeling of drowsiness.  This can then lead to feelings of tiredness and irritation.

Conversely, too much protein in the diet can also lead to certain side effects.  More protein can encourage the production of hormones that increases the body's ability to stay awake.  People who don't regulate their protein intake could become restless and find it difficult to fall asleep.

The case against protein diets vs. your mood
So can going through a protein diet bring about mood swings?  According to researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the protein diet and other similar diets that reduce the intake of carbohydrates can lead to a bad mood.

Carbohydrates are known to speed up the production of serotonin, another neurotransmitter.  It produces a feeling of relaxation and calm in individuals.  It is also a hormone that is responsible for regulating human emotions and thus, is often prescribed to treat depression and mood swings.  Without sufficient serotonin, a condition that is common among people who go through protein diets over a prolonged period, it would be difficult for the body to regulate disposition.

Merchant Account 101 (part 2 of 2)

Thinking of getting a merchant account?  A merchant account may be provided by a processing bank or by an agent for the bank. The factors in which merchant account provider to choose are relatively easy to weigh in.  They must be able to guarantee reliability, security and cost-effectiveness. The business owner should have his merchant account in the least of his or her concerns and not think about whether money is really coming in from the credit. However, since no merchant account provider is exactly flawless in terms of performance, they must be able to provide technical support in the event of a glitch. Technical support should be fast and accurate.  A business that deals with hundreds of transactions every second cannot afford to lose profit through a technical difficulty.

Security is also an important issue in getting merchant accounts. Many business owners fall victim to scammers who disguise themselves as providers. Make sure that the merchant account provider is registered to the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, also sometimes known as the Payment Card Industry (PCI). The council was organized by the five leading merchant account providers in 2006 and aims to standardize the credit card based commerce.

Lastly, another big factor in choosing a merchant account provider is the cost. Much of the cost is set by the card issuing bank although there are fees that would be asked by the merchant account provider. The largest portion of the fee is the interchange fee. Interchange fee takes into account different circumstances on how the transaction is made. For example, in a 3-tier pricing, visa and MasterCard classify these transactions into non-qualified, mid-qualified and qualified where the non-qualified classification gets to be charged the highest.

Some of the other fees that could be charged are the monthly minimum fee, authorization fee, batch fee and chargeback fee. Another factor to consider in the cost is the software used for the transactions. Renting equipments or software may be cheaper but may not be a good investment in two or three year time.

Merchant Account 101 (part 1 of 2)

A lot of modern technology has brought us great convenience to the tip of our fingers. From travel, to fashion and even in business, almost every type of good and service is accessible. With businesses trying to make their product more sellable amidst a very competitive market, they have to get consumers not only look for quality and price of the product but also for the service that comes with the purchase. Hence, merchant accounts were born.

Merchant accounts are a way to for businesses to handle transactions through the use of credit cards. There is really no historical note on how merchant accounts started although it can be hypothesized that the service started during the rise of credit card use during the 1960s. Industry giants like MasterCard and Visa, which originally are non-profit organizations, pioneered the general use of credits cards.

In 2006, there are 292 million credit cards that are in use in the United States alone. Globally, it is estimated that there are at least 1 billion credit cards issued. Merchant accounts make business faster, easier and more accessible to their clients. Provided, of course, that the merchant account obtained is effective. Large businesses could avail of merchant accounts relatively easier than the small businesses although more and more merchant account providers are going after the small business sector.

Thinking of getting a merchant account?  A merchant account may be provided by a processing bank or by an agent for the bank. The factors in which merchant account provider to choose are relatively easy to weigh in.  They must be able to guarantee reliability, security and cost-effectiveness. Knitting Needles (part 2 of 2)

Circular knitting (socks, sweaters etc.) whereby a needle with a small radius is essential uses this short type of knitting needle. Another short type of knitting needle is used for forming permutations in the order of stitches in cable knitting.

Different countries use different sizes of knitting needles. They have set their size standards for different types of needles. One can determine the size of a knitting needle with the aid of a needle gauge. Although most needles have their sizes written on them, their size label fades out with the passing time. Needle gauges have holes of different sizes in which a person can insert his knitting needle to determine its size. They are in a size range of 3-5 inches.

Contemporary knitting needles are made from materials like aluminum, steel, wood, bamboo, casein, plastic and glass. Plastic needles have no pointed edges and can be safely used by children. Previously, wood and metals were used for making knitting needles. The beautiful antique needles were created using tortoiseshell, walrus tusks and ivory. But soon they were banned as they made use of endangered species of animals.

A knitting enthusiast can store his needles in several types of needle storages. Straight needles can be stored in attractive cases. Cylindrical containers with padding on their bottoms keep the needle points sharp. Circular needles can be kept dangling on hangers. In case they are coiled tightly, one should soak them in warm water before using them.

Despite the presence of high-tech knitting machines in the markets, many of us still prefer to use the good ‘ol knitting needles. These needles probably won’t ever fail to amuse use and keep us engaged.

Knitting Needles (part 1 of 2)

A needle is the most important tool in the process of hand-knitting. In fact, the use of a needle is inevitable in this process of hand-knitting to produce knitted fabrics. The needle used in knitting is not quite like the small and sharp sewing needle. Most of these knitting needles have a long shaft and a taper at their end. Both, the shaft and the taper play important roles in the knitting process.

The active (unsecured) stitches of the fabric are held together by the shaft. This prevents them from disentangling. The taper is used for forming new stitches.

The size of a knitting needle is determined by its radius, which in turn determines the size of the stitch. The radius affects the length of the yarn loom drawn from the previous stitch. Fine needles are used for making petite stitches, whereas large needles are used for making big stitches. In case of uneven knitting, one can use several types of needles. One can influence the stitch size by wrapping yarn about a single needle for a multiple times. Large needles are used for large-scale projects.

Knitting needles come in several types and sizes. Probably invented in the 19th century, a straight needle is used by a large number of people the world over. This needle is capped at one end with a knob/head and tapers at the other end. It is used widely in the process of knitting two-dimensional fabrics mostly in squares and rectangles. The straight needle is used extensively in domestic knitting. It allows a person to create fabrics using extremely simple stitches.

Another knitting needle called the circular needle has two tapered rigid ends that are connected by a flexible cord. The long flexible cord holds the active stitches, whereas the tapered ends are used for creating new stitches. A short, straight rigid needle tapered at both ends is a popular variety of knitting needle.

Living Wills And How They Work (part 2 of 2)
In case the living will form necessitates the appointment of a patient advocate, he or she must not be any of the two witnesses. Your advocate should carry the burden of deciding for your health care and medical treatment in the unfortunate event of your incapacity to make the decision for yourself.

This person is also known as a health care representative. He or she may be a spouse, a daughter or son, a family member, a friend, or any significant person that you absolutely trust.

In essence, a living will becomes effective when the creator is no longer capable of making decisions with regard to medical treatment. It may be in the face of a terminal illness, permanent unconsciousness or coma, inability to communicate, mental incapacity, or vegetative condition.

In the event of any of these situations, the health care provider – a hospital, a hospice, or a nursing home – must be provided with a copy of the advance directive. The instructions contained within the legal document will serve as the basis for the continuation or withdrawal of medical treatment and other life-sustaining procedures.

The health care team, specifically the attending physicians, is legally bound to follow the directives indicated on a living will. However, although it is considered a legal document, the maker may revoke or change the contents of the will provided that it is carried out prior to becoming debilitated.

On top of that, the proper procedures for the revocation of living wills should be followed to make the act official.

Living Wills And How They Work (part 1 of 2)

The concept of living wills may not be very clear to a number of people. Some may even equate it with the "last will and testament", which is a totally different type of legal document. In point of fact, a living will is more analogous to a "power of attorney".

Its primary purpose is to make it possible for you – the maker or owner – to formulate decisions in advance with regard to medical treatment or life support, and lawfully command the health care team to carry out your wishes in that regard.

Because of the presence of numerous advances in the field of medicine and health care, doctors are now capable of sustaining life – even if it means being in a permanently vegetative condition. This is one of the reasons why living wills have become such a necessity.

Not all people actually like the idea of remaining in an almost lifeless state for an indefinite period of time. More often than not, the notion of extending life even when death is just round the corner seems excruciating for both the family and the patient. It's like one way of prolonging the suffering.

A living will makes it possible for you to decide whether life-sustaining measures and medical treatment should be continued or withheld. The directive may also include the refusal to take artificial feeding. Aside from that, you may even express other specific wishes before you become incapacitated to make decisions for your health care.

In order for the living will to be legally binding, the appropriate form must be utilized and it must be accomplished in conformity with the state laws on the subject of living wills. A number of states require the presence and signatures of two valid witnesses, the attendance of a Notary Public, or both.

It links up British surfers with the rest of the world.  The magazine has been a hit since only after six months since it started, they already had, in their own words, “a cushdy little office in town.”

Surf Girl Magazine
In a scene which seems to be dominated by men, surf girl gives it a fresh air. In fact, it is the only widely distributed magazine aimed at the female surfer. Orca Publications in Newquay, Cornwall publishes the magazine. It merges topic from the usual women’s magazine like fashion, health and beauty into the surfing culture. Articles on famous female surfers, surfing spots and environmental issues are also featured.

Zigzag Surf Magazine

Zigzag surf magazine is the fourth oldest surf magazine in the world. Started by Paul Naude, Doug MacDonald and Mike Larmont, the magazine was conceived after the team met up with publisher of the Backdoor, a Hawaiian tabloid magazine. The original shop is in the rooftop of Mike Larmont’s surfboard factory.  The magazine was later sold to Craig Sims and Rob Von Wieringen in 1988.  Presently, the team of John McCarthy and Will Bendix publishes the magazine.

Wave Action Surf Magazine

Like the other magazines, wave action surf magazine started out humbly, in a small apartment in Huntington, California. Surfers Mike Freihofer and Pete Rocky pioneered the magazine while still working for another magazine publishing company, International Surf. With two other friends, Tracy Mikulec and Jake Knight, they launched Wave Action Surf Magazine in 1993. The magazine publishing company went on successfully thereafter, creating four more publications.

Wave Action surf magazine initiated the idea for other publications to look out for the next top surfers by releasing an "All Grom Issue" with the article "Hot 100."

Surfing in Ink and Paper: Adventures in Magazine Publishing (part 1 of 2)

For a lot of people, surfing is not only a sport, it is a lifestyle. The sport has attracted people from all walks life. Some had already built their everyday life around the sport. It has established a whole new culture by itself. With a culture of people with an intense love and commitment to surfing, they have posed themselves as a good market. It is a good niche of people that magazine publishing companies have definitely explored. Here’s a list of magazines that have dedicated themselves to the community.

John Severson founded this very successful publication from his own garage in the 1960s. It originally served as an accompaniment to his third surf film, Surf Fever. The magazine proved to be a success, prompting Severson to launch The Surfer Quarterly which later on became the Surfer Bi-Monthly. Surfer was such a huge success that it helped to initiate the boom of the surf culture in the 1970s to the 1980s. It has opened the doors between surfers to talk about almost everything that is related to it.

One important outcome from the magazine was the environmental awareness and movement among the surfers. Articles about marine pollution, reef and harbor conservation have been featured on regular sections. This then has lead to the establishment of the Surfrider Foundation in the 1980s.

John Severson later sold the magazine to Better Living, Inc. Forty-one years later after Surfer was started in his garage, the magazine has undergone several changes in its staff and ownership. The company has also turned itself into a full-sized magazine publishing company.  It has since then hailed as the “surfer’s bible.”

iPhone Battery Replacement (part 2 of 2)
However, Apple was able to determine the customer’s anticipation for battery replacement and so they offered the iPhone loaner for $29. The iPhone loaner can be used for three days while your iPhone is still with the battery service provider. Keep in mind that once your iPhone’s battery is replaced, the service process will also eliminate all the data on the gadget. Make sure that before you take the iPhone to the battery service, you’ve already backed up your music files, text messages, account settings, photos, contacts, and other important data. Apple will not be held responsible for any lost data and it is also highly advised that you remove all the iPhone accessories before the battery replacement procedure.

To answer the demands of the consumer, last July 2007, independent battery service providers emerged in the market which was not related in any way to Apple. These battery service providers charged lower fees and they also provided battery packs. The battery packs are now widely available but if you choose this alternative, you need to have a soldering iron in order to complete the task of replacing the iPhone battery. However, if you’re using the 3g iPhone, you can’t make use of the battery packs and you need to contact Apple first.

iPhones usually cost between $499 to $599 and you will also need to stick to the 2-year AT&T service plan which costs $60 per month; that is, if you don’t unlock your iPhone.

Apple should have disclosed the battery replacement info sooner so that the customers knew about it in advance. The damage has been done and if you have an iPhone and you need to replace its batteries, contact Apple battery service or you can simply purchase the DIY battery packs; so which alternative are you going to choose?

iPhone Battery Replacement (part 1 of 2)

Do you have an iPhone? If you do, then you’re probably concerned about battery replacement. You see, the Apple iPhone’s battery cannot be replaced by the user. The battery is located inside the stylish gadget. Users can’t simply take out the battery and purchase a new one; they still need to send the iPhone to Apple Store just to have the batteries replaced.

Consumers are frustrated about the battery replacement issue of their iPhone but they can’t do anything about it. Developers of the iPhone are still trying to come up with effective ways to expand the gadget’s capabilities, including the removable battery. Hackers are also on the move because they want to find out how to switch the batteries of the iPhone without going through the usual process provided by Apple.

Most of the very first customers who purchased the iPhone were unaware that the batteries are not replaceable. They were simply attracted by the iPhone’s crossbred iPod and cell phone features, internet-capable device, and digital camera. Apple was able to post about the battery replacement procedure on its official site after the products were already sold in the market. Apple iPod players and the iPhone follow similar procedures when it comes to battery replacement.

Apple has its battery service provider where the consumers can have their iPhone batteries replaced. The whole process takes 3 business days and the service cost is over $70 plus the shipping cost of &6.95. So you see, you will not be able to use your iPhone for three days.

Early Introduction To Dressmaking (part 2 of 2)
Effective strategies to get kids started on dressmaking

No matter how you look forward to having your child join you while you are dressmaking, parents must never force the kids to do what they don’t want to do. So, to spare you from the pains of forcing a child to get into dressmaking, you must access assess the child's personality first by observing him or her and by asking the child questions about his or her interest in sewing briefly. Here are other effective strategies to get kids into sewing and dressmaking:

1. Gauge the maturity of the child. Expert sewers would agree that the basic trait that the child to be able to enjoy dressmaking is his or her maturity level. This is because when the child is mature enough, he or she will develop the importance of finishing what was started. Maturity level can also develop dedication and discipline in your child because he or she already understands the pros and cons of what he or she is doing.

2. Measure the child's interest in dressmaking. Aside from maturity, you should also gauge the child's interest towards the craft. If you see him or her observing what you are doing while sewing and you feel the child's excitement about the outcome of the item, then you should give the child a simple sewing project.

3. Start simple. When teaching a child to sew, start with simple projects such as a handkerchief, tablemat, or a simple blouse. Start with the basic patterns so the child will be familiar with different patterns available. Also, choose designs and colors that are bright and happy to stimulate your child's positive attitude.

4. Teach basic sewing techniques. In teaching kids to sew for dressmaking, introduce him or her hand sewing first. When you see that the child has mastered sewing by hand, you can introduce him or her to using the sewing machine with your guidance.

Early Introduction To Dressmaking (part 1 of 2)

Dressmaking can be a wonderful bonding activity for parents and children because it nurtures creativity and resourcefulness in both parties. Unfortunately, most children are not into dressmaking because the parents themselves do not encourage them to indulge in the craft.

If taught early, dressmaking could bring so many advantages to children. Aside from encouraging them to be creative, dressmaking also teaches these kids skills such as drawing. It also inspires them to make their own creations and will make them more aware about the independence they can get from this wonderful activity.

Teaching children the beauty of dressmaking

If you are a parent who is into dressmaking and would like your child to join you while you're doing the craft, you must first show him or her the beauty of dressmaking. You can do this by slowly introducing the child into the craft starting with the dressmaking tools, patterns that can be used, different designs, color scheme and selection, types of fabric, and accessories that can be used in sewing clothes, bags, and other items.

When you're teaching a child to sew, make sure that you explain the purpose and advantages of sewing. Explain how she or he can benefit from it and what are the different creations the child can produce. You can also let the child watch you when you sew to tickle his or her curiosity and try the craft by himself. When you are demonstrating the craft, make sure that you are confident with your work, and are ready to answer all the questions the child might have.

How To Communicate In Body Language (part 2 of 2)

How You Can Impress Or Convince

It is simple to give a good impression by using body language. A good posture when sitting or standing is essential. Always remember not to slouch. Some people usually regard it as laziness or boredom. When sitting down, do not sit at the edge of the chair. This would make your back look stiffer thus making you look nervous. As much as possible, do not cross you legs as well. If you do so, make sure the direction of your body is towards the other person. When standing, avoid putting your hands in your pocket or crossing your arms over the chest.

You can also impress by giving a firm handshake with eye contact and a slight smile. This action will reflect that you are confident and comfortable. Hand gestures while talking is also a positive body language; it signifies that you know what you are talking about. But avoid too much hand gestures since it might distract the other person from focusing on what you are saying.

Give Signals Of Interest And Attraction

As stated above, long eye contact is one of the strongest signal of interest. Breaking eye contact and then going back again is a sign of interest being exchanged by two people who do not know each other yet. It is an act of eye body language used in flirting.

Other signs that you may use to show your interest includes leaning or directing the body towards the other person and nodding the head, which means “I agree” or “Go on, continue”.

Communicate In A Foreign Body Language

When you are visiting a foreign country or communicating with a foreigner, it is essential that you have a background on their culture and acceptable body language. Prolonged eye contact may be a sign of interest generally, but some Asian countries find it as intimidating and rude. Thus, learn how to communicate through body language appropriately to gain respect and good impression from other people.

How To Communicate In Body Language (part 1 of 2)

Communication is the method of exchanging messages between two or more people. But words are not the only effective means of talking to another person. The use of body language is a type of nonverbal communication wherein one would use his body to express. This includes the gestures, posture, facial expression, and eye contact. The fact is that all of us are unaware most of the time that we are already sending signals and conveying messages.

Let Your Eyes Speak

The eyes are truly the windows of the soul. It can speak louder than any body movements, even words. The power that the eyes have is that they are truly expressive; no matter what we say, the eyes will prove one's sincerity or honesty.

The eye contact is a very strong reinforcement of your current situation. When the other person is talking and you are maintaining eye contact, it signifies that you are listening to her and you are interested in the conversation. When you are the one talking, eye contact indicates that you are being honest and sincere about what you are saying.

Your eyes can also show that you are undergoing boredom, anxiety, distraction, and lack of interest. Boredom and lack of interest is reflected when the eyes are dull or would break the eye contact and wander around the room. Distraction is also indicated by the sudden break of eye contact and the eyes will be directed to the source of distraction. Meanwhile, anxiety or tension is evident when there is an increase in one's blinking rate.

Motion Control - The Heart of CNC (part 2 of 2)

The operator of the motion controlled machine counting the number of revolutions made on the handwheel, added the generations of the dial would accomplish accurate positioning. The drive motor of the machine would be rotated to a resulting amount, which would then drive the ball screw, which would cause the linear motion of the axis. The feedback device at the end of the ball screw would confirm its revolutions.

The same linear motion can be found on a table vise. When you rotate the vise crank, it would also rotate a lead screw, which would then be able to drive the movable jaw in the table vise. In comparison to a motor controlled CNC machine, the linear axis in it is extremely precise compared to that of a table vise. This is because the number of revolutions of the axis drive motor in the CNC machine accurately controls the amount of linear motion along the axis.

A CNC command programmed and executed within a control of a machine would tell the drive motor of the machine as to how many number of precise times it would rotate. This in turn would rotate the ball screw then the ball screw would drive the linear axis. After the process has started, a feedback device located at the end of the ball screw would confirm the programmed number of rotations that the machine would run has taken in effect.

How would axis motion be controlled?

Utilizing a form of coordinate system would make axis controlling a whole lot simpler and more logical to the CNC control. Two coordinate systems that are being used in CNC machines that have been popular are rectangular and polar coordinate system, to which the more popular of the two is the rectangular coordinate system.

Graphing is a common application for the rectangular coordinate system and is needed to cause movement in a CNC machine.

Motion Control - The Heart of CNC (part 1 of 2)

What is Motion Control?

Motion control can be applied in many categories such as robotics, CNC operated machine tools and Kinematics, wherein motion control in kinematics are usually simpler. It can be mainly used nowadays with packaging, textile, assembly industries, printing, and semiconductor production. The hardware of a motion controlled machine usually consists of drive systems, motors, a computer, a PLC or Programmable Logic Controller to run the programs, and an amplifier.

The basic design of a motion control system would include a motion controller to produce a set of points including closing a position, a drive or amplifier to convert the control signal of the motion controller into a high power electrical current, an actuator, one or more feedback sensors, and mechanical components to convert the motion of the actuators to the desired motion.

CNC machines use programmable commands to make inputting motion to the machine easier rather than using cranks or other conventional machine tools. Almost all CNC machine tools can have programmable motion type (whether it would be rapid, linear or circular), the amount of motion, the feedback rate, and the axes to move.

Motion control is the simplest function of any Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine. It is precise, consistent, and automatic system of control. CNC equipments need two or more modes of direction to which they are called axes. There are two common axis types and they are called linear and rotary. The linear axis type of motion control is driven along a straight path while the rotary axis type is driven along a circular path.

The History of the American Economic Recession (part 2 of 2)

After the 1817 recession, another recession in 1837 followed. With this recession, in just two months time, the economic decline accumulated to nearly $100,000,000 in value.  There were reportedly 343 banks that closed (out of the 850 banks). While 62 banks reported partial failure.

There were recessions that happened in 1857, 1873, 1893 and 1907. The 1907 economic recession was a financial crisis. Nearly 50 percent of the stock market fell from its peak in 1906. It's primary cause was a retraction of loans by some banks that began in New York City and soon spread into the whole country. The 1907 recession was the fourth recession in 34 years.

The post-World War I recession hit not only the United States but much of the countries globally. Pre-war economy was showing fast economic growth. As a matter of fact, the decade before the war, the world economy was growing record high. After the war, the global economy stated to decline. The sharpest or worst decline was during 1921. the recession was a result of the end of wartime production along with the return of the troops without any employment. Global production was also affected by the war, especially those countries whose industries were shattered by the war.

What followed was known as the Great Depression that occurred from 1929 until 1939. It is the most dramatic, worldwide economic landslide. It affected not only industrialized countries b out also nations who rely in exporting their raw materials. It was the largest and most important economic depression in the world.

Five recessions in the United States followed after the Great Depression. It was the recession during 1953, 1957, early in the 1980s, early during 1990s and early 2000.

The early 2000 economic recession was not felt only in the United States, but was experienced in most Western Countries. The European Union was mostly hit during 2000 and 2001. While the United states was affected mostly during 2002 and 2003.

The History of the American Economic Recession (part 1 of 2)

This year, there have been murmurs that the United States is entering, again, into an economic recession. Although the National Bureau of Economic Research still has not release any formal announcement regarding this, American people are starting to experience an economic slowdown and a downturn in their financial and personal life.

This would not be the first time that the United States would experience an economic recession. According to economists, since 1854, the United States has encountered 32 cycles of expansions and contractions (boom and bust). There would be and average of 17 months of contraction an 38 months of expansion. However, since 1980 there have been only eight periods of negative economic growth over one quarter or more.

There were three period considered to recessions:

January- July 1980 and July 1981- November 1982: two years in total
July 1990- March 1991: eight months
November 2001- November 2002: twelve months

The longest record for an American economic boom was 37 quarters during 1991 until 2000.

The first economic recession happened in 1819. It greatly affected the new nation. After the War of 1812, the American economy was experiencing monetary strains. In 1814, during the term of President Madison, he allowed a replacement of a national bank. This enabled the post-war economy to boom. Although in 1817, there were some financial irregularities and irresponsibility. Americans started buying extravagant amounts of western lands- more than they can afford. The government started selling the land on credit.

On 1819, the government started to demand payment from the loans. During this time, the economy is starting to slow down. The market growth could no longer be sustained, the demands of American products are starting to wane. This led to a wave of bankruptcies and foreclosures. Land owners found themselves unable to pay their government debts and debts in the banks, leading to repossessing of lands.

Home Exchange – More Random Tips (part 2 of 2)

Do’s and Don’ts
From the earliest part of the discussions (either face-to-face or in emails) it is advisable to establish parameters. These include hands-off rooms or closets, use of computers, cars, etc. It is good to be specific on matters such as who will foot the utility payments and other things like minor accidents using the appliances and the like.

Confirmations on all the agreed-on matter are very important. And they are useful if written down. People forget. Records stay on paper. Confirmations are also important on the final details of your arrangement.

Telling the neighbors
It is always good policy to inform the neighbors that you are lending your home to guests for the time you are away. Aside from potential untoward incidents or animosities, neighbors can be a big help to your guests.

Instructions and notes
Write down emergency numbers of local doctors and local police for the benefit of your exchange partners. Include written guides and other instructions on how to operate appliances and other equipments or anything else that need some explanation.

Additional guests
If you are the guests and there will be an addition to your party, it is common courtesy that you inform your hosts. A friend or a relative or two might pop up and join you at the last minute either for part or all of your stay. Tell your hosts at once and if the home can accommodate the addition, in most cases it shall be accepted.

Clean up after you
You owe it to your hosts to put the home back to its original state: clean bed sheets on the bed, clean towels in the bathroom, washed and dried dishes in their racks, scrubbed oven, etc.

Replace items that you used up, like washing powder, sugar, cooking oil, etc. If you swapped cars as well, be sure to leave it with a full tank of gas.

The Golden Rule
The Golden Rule might serve as a good reminder that while you are at your home exchange partner’s home, he is also living in yours. What you would expect him to do with your house, he expects you to do the same to his.

Home Exchange – More Random Tips (part 1 of 2)

Home exchange, the relatively new phenomenon of swapping residences for a period of time by two travelers who want to go to the other’s place, is getting to be more and more popular these days. Judging by the proliferation of home exchange groups who facilitate these transactions, it seemed like the good idea had caught on.

Aside from the big savings in accommodations, swapping residences brings with it some fun, loads of adventure, and surprises one normally miss out staying in bland expensive hotels.

But finding your ideal swap mate can be difficult and tedious at times. And even if matters and issues have already been resolved and implemented, problems can still arise. As one old-timer says, a successful home exchange is a healthy combination of chemistry, flexibility, honesty, clear communication and some luck.

Checking, comparing and trying out some of the following random tips and guidelines might give both would-be guests and would-be hosts some help.

Communication is Key
Would-be exchange partners would do well if they are clear and accurate about the offer of their homes in the listing. Be honest but be polite. If your home is not child-proof, telling the other party would save time and effort right from the start. Both can move on and check out other would-be partners.

Partner with people of similar lifestyles
Offer to exchange with others who share a similar lifestyle or interest such as yours. An exchange where the homeowners and guests share a hobby has been known to lead to long-term friendships.

Your teenagers might also be more receptive to traveling with you if they can meet and hook up with others their age, even if they have different cultures.

Fish Oil Grades (part 2 of 2)

This type of health food grade fish oil undergoes a slightly more purification process by means of limited molecular distillation in order to remove some of its cholesterol content in order to label it as cholesterol free. An even purified version of this health food grade version of fish oil is known as fish oil concentrate. This is the type of fish oil consisting of ethyl esters of the fish oil that undergoes fractional cooling. This allows a more purified form of fish oil with lesser amounts of contaminants that cod liver oil.

Generally, this type of fish oil contains a better concentration of omega 3 fatty acids. A single one gram capsule contains about 300 mg of omega 3 fatty acids. One capsule of a thermally fractionated health food grade can contain as much as 500 mg of long chain omega 3 fatty acids.

Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil
Pharmaceutical grade fish oils have been ultra refined in order to provide the highest quality of fish oil. This grade of fish oil undergoes through certain specialized processes in order to come up with the most refined fish oil. Certain specialized equipment is usually used in order to detect the minutest amount of contaminants in the fish oil. Because it is ultra refined, it is thousand times purer than the molecular distilled health food grade fish oils.

An ultra refined pharmaceutical grade fish oil contains more omega 3 fatty acids than the previous two fish oil grades. A one gram of this type of fish oil contains around 600 mg of long chain omega 3 fatty acids. And for being the most refined of the three grades of fish oil, it contains the smallest amount of contaminants.

Fish Oil Grades (part 1 of 2)

Fish oil production does not just provide one type of end product. In fact, there are also other grades of fish oil being produced. The three types of fish oil produced today depend on their level of quality.

Cod Liver Oil
Cod liver oil, despite its popularity as a nutritional supplement, is considered as a low quality grade of fish oil. It may only be used in small amounts as an ideal supplement since this form of fish oil may contain certain contaminants. Cod liver oil is also known to contain high levels of vitamin A which can be toxic to humans in large doses.

One teaspoon of cod liver oil contains 500 mg of long chain omega 3 fatty acids. Cod liver oil contains the highest levels of contaminants which may include DDT, PCB’s as well as organic mercury. Taking this type of fish oil may not be safe in large quantities.

Health Food Fish Oil
Better quality grade fish oil is one that is sourced from a particular species of fish such as salmon. Most of these health food grade fish oil are usually available in soft gel capsules because they still carry with them a very poor taste profile. There is also a cholesterol free version of this type of fish oil grade.

Considerations When Buying Sewing Machines For Dressmaking

Individuals who have been in the dressmaking industry for so long would agree that the sewing machine is one's biggest investment when it comes to the tools needed. Since the machine will do most of the work, its price would range from one hundred dollars or higher depending on the quality of the sewing machine that will be used for dressmaking.

Since it would cost one that much money, an informed decision is very important before buying a sewing machine to ensure that he or she would waste a single cent in something that cannot really be used for a long time. In the market today, there are so many sewing machines available. Many of which come in cheaper prices and durable compared to more expensive ones. For this reasons alone why it is very important to be familiarized with everything about sewing machines suitable for dress making through a simple research before finally purchasing a unit.

Buying guidelines

The very basic thing to do before buying a sewing machine for dressmaking is to be familiarized with everything about it. One could do this by attending a simple sewing class online, reading various sewing references and asking veteran sewers. If a person is knowledgeable about the parts of sewing machine, he or she will never go wrong when buying one.

To be able to get a good quality sewing machine for dress making, it is best to choose a trustworthy dealer. Since sewing machines are expensive, always make sure that it is bought from a dealer that has good reputation. Although there are reliable online dealers that offer good quality sewing machines, it is best to opt for local dealers so one can inspect the unit first before paying for it.

A person can find reliable dealers through the recommendation of the sewers that he or she knows, taking public sewing classes, or visiting a sewing forum and ask for a list of trustworthy dealers. Once a dealer has been chosen, it is best to inquire about warranty and return policies.

For dress making, sewing machines are great investments because these are expensive. In fact, people that own these or even those who are planning to buy a single unit should be well aware of the things that need to be done in order to maintain its function. Knowing what and what shouldn’t be done in using a sewing machine will not only ensure efficient sewing but also worth of the product in the long run.

Aside from knowing the proper maintenance and caring for sewing machine, another consideration before buying one is the budget. Although there are so many types of sewing machines out there, one may not have the luxury of choosing the most expensive or branded ones due to budget constraint. To avoid frustration over something that a person cannot buy, always consider your spending limits in choosing a sewing machine.

What you can do is to do a short list of units that can fit the budget at hand and choose which is the best among them. Once there is a short list, one can now eliminate the options depending on the price, the quality and the preference of the buyer.

Other considerations would be the design of the sewing machine because this will affect the overall performance of the eaquipment when used for dress making.
